“Strange isn’t it George? Each man’s life touches so many other lives. When he isn’t around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn’t he?” ~Clarence the Angel
Do you remember the Christmas movie, “It’s A Wonderful life”? A penniless George Bailey dies, believing that he was a failure. But a big-hearted angel named Clarence allows George to go back in time and see how the lives of his friends and family would have been different had he not lived.
George’s bank account may have been small, but he was indeed a rich man. He lived a life of quiet devotion as a husband, father, neighbor, and a loyal friend. “Remember George, no man is a failure who has friends” says Clarence.
Seeing his life, in all its messiness, and all its simplicity, and all its beauty…for the first time…he begs Clarence to let him live again.
If you knew that you would be going away, and not coming back any time soon, would you look upon your family and friends in a new light? Would you love as you have never loved? Would you forget about “I” and “Mine” and just live the life you were put here to live?
My vote is that we all turn off CNN and Fox and Twitter and whatever else is holding our attention and exchange them for some holiday fun with real people in real time. Will you join me?
