Yoga Alliance 300 Hour Yoga Teacher Transformation Required Curriculum:
Techniques, Training and Practice
This material will foster an enhanced understanding and experience that builds upon the 200 Hour foundational Techniques, Training, and Practice sessions. Our focus in the 200 hour program was heavily asana and script based, so now we move on to a deeper study of the other 7 limbs. You will learn a variety of pranayamas, kriyas, chanting, mantra, meditation and other traditional yoga techniques. These hours will be a mix between: 1) analytical training in how to teach and practice the techniques and 2) guided practice of the techniques themselves.
Teaching Methodology
Students will be given in-depth study of:
- Communication skills, group dynamics, time management, and the establishment of priorities and boundaries
- How to address the specific needs of individuals and special populations, to the degree possible in a group setting
- Principles of demonstration, observation, assisting and correcting
- Teaching and learning styles
- Qualities of a phenomenal teacher
- The student learning process
Advanced Anatomy and Physiology
Students will participate in advanced study of human physical anatomy and physiology (bodily systems, organs, etc.) as well as energy anatomy and physiology (chakras, nadis, etc.). Includes both the study of the subject and application of its principles to yoga practice (benefits, contraindications, healthy movement patterns, etc.). A unique feature of this program is a full day ‘field trip’ for an anatomy experience with virtual technology. This will be scheduled outside of regular class time.
We help you learn to observe bodies and adapt asana to the countless types of bodies you see in your classes. Here’s what one of our students had to say about our Study of Anatomy:
“I’ve decided that as humans, everyone should be entitled to an anatomy lab. My practice this morning, then bike ride has changed so much. I am more aware of my posture, positioning, and transitioning in both realms. It has also made me more conscious of drinking more water and eating nothing but clean healthy food. The environmental influences on our bodies are hard enough on us. (Those black spots on that guys lungs were from 2nd hand smoke and bad air) My body has been amazing and so giving for 39 years. I choose to give back to this amazing creation from now on. Namaste’ Body!!”
***A human cadaver lab will be held on a weekday from 8am to 4pm (Date TBA)
Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle and Ethics for Yoga Teachers
Students will receive in-depth knowledge of:
- In depth study of the history of yoga
- Further study traditional texts such as The Yoga Sutras and The Bhagavad Gita
- Yoga lifestyle, such as the precept of non-violence (ahimsa), and the concepts of dharma and karma
- Ethics for yoga teachers, such as those involving teacher – student relationships and community
- Understanding the value of teaching yoga as a service and being of service to others through yoga (seva)
- Mindfulness practices and leading various meditations
Practicum
Includes practice teaching, receiving feedback, observing others teaching and hearing and giving feedback, and a group community project that will be presented at the culmination of the program.
Specialized Areas
Students will have access to some unique and specialized training programs including work with a trauma sensitivity coach, instructors from various traditions including Kundalini, Iyengar, Ashtanga, Anusara, MBSR, Restorative Yoga, Yin Yoga and an in-depth study of human anatomy.
You will have the opportunity to participate in a community project, and to be a mentor to a newer practitioner or teacher.
