A Quiet Place to Breathe, Wherever You Are in This Journey
Cancer touches more than just one person. Whether you have recently been diagnosed, are in active treatment, are finding your footing in survivorship, or are caring for someone you love through theirs, the weight of it all is real. It is completely normal to feel like your body is no longer your own, or to feel exhausted from being “the strong one” for everyone around you. In moments like these, you need more than appointments and prescriptions. You need a soft, steady space where you can breathe, move gently, and remember who you are underneath all of it.
My name is Denise Druce, and I have spent more than 40 years helping people move their bodies and lift their spirits. I am also a thriver living with stage 4 breast cancer, which means I understand both sides of this experience deeply … the heavy fatigue, the foggy days, the worry of a loved one watching from the sidelines, and that small, stubborn flicker of hope that refuses to go out. Through yoga for cancer, I welcome patients, survivors, family members, and caregivers across the Salt Lake City area into a community where every body and every story is honored.
Real Support for Real Side Effects, Body and Heart
Living with cancer, or loving someone who is, often means dealing with side effects that go far beyond the physical. People I work with describe “chemo brain,” stiff joints, and a bone-deep exhaustion that sleep just does not fix. Caregivers and family members carry a different but equally heavy load … tight shoulders, racing thoughts, guilt over their own needs, and the quiet ache of watching someone they love go through something hard. Yoga for cancer patients and their loved ones is designed to meet all of that exactly where it lives, in the body and in the heart.
In our sessions, we focus on gentle movement that helps support lymphatic flow, ease tension, and rebuild flexibility without overtaxing your system. For people in treatment or recovery, we use thoughtful, body-aware techniques to support range of motion after surgery, radiation, or long hours in treatment chairs. For caregivers, we focus on grounding, breath work, and nervous system reset so you can keep showing up for your person without disappearing yourself. No matter which side of the experience you are on, this practice gives you back a sense of agency. We cannot control every part of a diagnosis, but we can choose how we show up for ourselves on the mat.
Forty Years of Experience, Lived From Both Sides of the Mat
What sets this work apart is a deep, lived understanding of what it really means to walk through cancer, whether you are the patient or the person standing beside one. I am not just guiding you through a sequence. I am walking with you. After four decades as a leader in the fitness and wellness world, I have the professional training to keep you safe and well-supported. As someone who is living with cancer myself, I also know firsthand how it feels to need rest one week and movement the next, and how isolating it can be for the people who love you, too. Together, we are not just “doing yoga.” We are building a personal toolkit you can carry into the rest of your life.
My standards are high because I know how precious your energy is, and I take that seriously. Drawing on my “Teaching Yoga Everywhere” philosophy, I focus on movements you can actually use in your real life … at home on the couch, in a hospital waiting room, in a quiet hallway outside a loved one’s appointment, or in your own bed when your body asks for stillness. The goal is functional, accessible wellness that gently complements your medical care, supports better rest, and helps you feel more like yourself again. Whether we meet in person in Millcreek or you join my Patreon Inner Circle from anywhere along the Wasatch Front, you are joining a community that understands your strength, honors your struggles, and meets you with real compassion.
Small Wins That Add Up to a Life Well Lived
The best way to understand the power of this work is to hear from the people who have walked this path themselves. One patient recently shared that our sessions became the highlight of her week, because it was the only hour where she did not feel like a “cancer patient” but simply a person in a room of caring people. A caregiver told me he finally had a place where it was okay to put himself first for one hour, and that he was sleeping better and arguing less with his wife as a result. Others have shared that the community we build together gives them a kind of emotional safety they could not find anywhere else.
When you join this practice, the results go far beyond touching your toes or perfecting a pose. You gain peace of mind, a steadier breath, and a clearer sense of your own voice again. We celebrate the small wins together … a day with less pain, a quiet moment of deep, easy breathing, a hard conversation handled with grace, an honest “I needed this” from someone in the room … because those are the moments that quietly add up to a life well lived. It is about protecting your time and energy for the people and things you love, whether you are the one facing treatment or the one walking beside them
