Bringing Accessible Yoga to Every Corner of Salt Lake City
Have you ever felt like the benefits of yoga were tucked away in expensive studios, far out of reach for the people who could use them most? It’s a frustration we hear all the time. Yoga can feel “exclusive,” leaving people in high-stress places like schools, hospitals, and correctional facilities without the simple tools they need to find a moment of calm. At Yoga Forward, we believe the mat shouldn’t have borders. We’re committed to breaking down those walls so every person in our community can experience the life-changing power of movement and breath.
I’m Denise Druce, and I’ve spent more than 40 years watching yoga transform real lives in real ways. Through Yoga Forward, my mission is to close the wellness gap by taking yoga everywhere in Salt Lake City… not just to studios, but to the people and places that are too often overlooked. As a Yoga Alliance certified professional with decades of experience along the Wasatch Front, I’ve learned one truth above all others. When we give yoga freely to underserved communities, we don’t just change one life. We change the heartbeat of our entire city.
Why Studio Walls Aren't Enough Anymore
Life can feel incredibly heavy, especially for those in our community carrying the weight of real hardship. Picture a student at a busy Millcreek school quietly battling anxiety in the back of class. Picture someone inside a state correctional facility trying to make sense of past trauma without the right tools. These are the real-world moments where traditional yoga studios simply don’t show up. And when these tools are missing, stress turns into burnout, trauma stays locked in the body, and the cycle of pain becomes harder and harder to break.
That’s exactly where our work begins. By choosing to give yoga through our specialized programs, we close those gaps with intention and compassion. Our trauma-informed yoga training meets people where they are, whether that means a hospital room, a classroom, a community shelter, or a cell. This work isn’t about touching your toes or mastering a fancy pose. It’s about offering a mental lifeline to people who’ve been left behind by the modern wellness industry. We bring the practice directly to the people, because physical and emotional relief should be a right, not a luxury. Reach out today to bring this kind of programming into your space.
A Different Kind of Yoga Mission
What sets our approach apart is that we don’t just “show up” and leave. We embed ourselves in the community for the long haul. Our work includes the Prison Yoga Project along with specialized training designed for minority communities, the LGBTQ+ community, and other groups whose voices are too often overlooked. We never use a one-size-fits-all model. Instead, we shape every class around the unique needs of the space, whether we’re guiding someone through end-of-life care or coaching a high school athlete through performance anxiety. More than 40 years in this industry have taught me one thing for certain. The best way to serve Salt Lake City is to listen first and teach second.
We’re proud to be a visionary leader along the Wasatch Front, moving past the tired “yoga body” stereotype to celebrate every body in every shape, age, and background. Our promise is simple. We go where others won’t. While many schools chase the “elite,” we chase real impact. Our programs build the Yoga Foundation new instructors need to feel confident teaching in any setting, so our graduates are ready for the messy, beautiful, deeply human reality of taking yoga everywhere.
Real Stories of Real Healing
The true measure of this work lives in the people we reach. One participant put it this way. “I never thought I belonged in a yoga class until Denise brought it to our community center. For the first time in years, I felt like I could actually breathe through my stress.” Moments like these are exactly why we do this work. We’re not just teaching poses. We’re handing people back their sense of agency, calm, and self-trust. When we give yoga, we help our neighbors step out of the long shadow cast by chronic stress, isolation, and unhealed trauma, one breath at a time.
Trusted Across Salt Lake City and the Wasatch Front
Rooted deeply in the Salt Lake City and Millcreek areas, Yoga Forward is more than a service. It’s a local movement built on years of relationships, trust, and showing up when it matters most. With over 40 years of experience, I’m fully licensed and insured, and every program we run is held to the highest safety and professional standards. We understand the specific needs of the Wasatch Front because we live here, raise our families here, and care deeply about the wellbeing of our neighborhoods. From coordinating a park session to organizing emergency outreach in a moment of community crisis, we are the trusted wellness partner Utah turns to.
