“Courage to me is doing something daring, no matter how afraid, insecure, intimidated, alone, unworthy, incapable, ridiculed or whatever other paralyzing emotion you might feel. Courage is taking action…..no matter what. So you’re afraid? Be afraid. Be scared silly to the point you’re trembling and nauseous, but do it anyway!” ~ Richelle E. Goodrich
All we have to do is watch the news for 15 minutes to see that the world we live is is not driven by hope, courage and action. Mainstream media would have us believe that all of our waking hours should be consumed with fear. That we should be spending all of our time and money on emergency preparedness, or on something to make us more beautiful.
Some believe we’re going to hell in a hand basket and many are looking to the politicians to save us. Now that’s funny, looking at who we are considering for President.
52 years on this planet has taught me that if I want things to be better, I have to make ME better. The work starts here. I believe we’re getting better. I have hope in a better tomorrow. I see acts of courage every day. My life is full of people IN ACTION and I believe that together, we are creating the world we wish to live in.
What does HOPE look like?
What does COURAGE look like?
What does ACTION look like?
How do things get better?
I am so blessed to do the work I do, and to meet the people I meet. I’d like to introduce you to my friend Danny, who I met at Unite Fitness Retreat where I am a motivational coach. To me, this is what hope, courage and action look like…
In his words: “When I started with Unite I was around 440 and lost about 90 lbs out there. I got lucky enough to keep the momentum going when I got home and am now 265 ish. My advice to others is pretty simple…don’t give up. Most people think if they have taken a step back that they can’t go forward. I’m proof that if you keep going you can do it because all big things start with small steps. Sometimes people are too proud to let others help them. In the end they have to let go of things they have held on to for too long that become roadblocks on the way to their goals and happiness. The key thing is to remember that if someone is offering you a helping hand, you are not weak for taking it because everyone needs help from time to time.”
- Don’t Give Up.
- Take small steps.
- Ask for help.
- Smile and be beautiful!
In my work, it is said that I get to touch many lives. I would argue that it is my life that is being touched time and time again. I am gifted with the ability to verbally motivate and educate. But YOU Danny and many like him, are doing the hard work. You are pushing back against the excuses, the temptations, the easy way out, and doing what most people WON’T. You are why I do what I do.
I am filled with hope that tomorrow will be better than today. I am inspired daily by the courage of Danny and many others who are fighting the hard battle to live a better, healthier life. I encourage everyone reading this to be inspired as well and get in action right now on something you have been putting off. This my friends is how things get better.
