I’m free.. it took me my whole life
I got the keys to the cages
I’m ready for bright light
I’m free… I came here for the fight
I’m front row in Las Vegas
And there’s a big one on tonight
~U2 Atomic City
Happy March my friend! We’ve just returned from seeing our absolute favorite band U2 in the Sphere, Las Vegas. What a show, what a band, what a lifetime experience.
Live music, lots of time in the car, lots of time for deep thoughts. Like this…
Question. What do you do when you come to a round-a-bout? Are you a ‘speed up and get there first person, or do you actually yield to oncoming traffic? I think this could be a personality test.
What does it meant to yield? Definition: give way to arguments, demands, or pressure.
I had this on my mind as we pulled into Las Vegas. We were both fired up to check in to the hotel, and get over to the show to get in line for GA. And then…I pulled up the reservation to find out that we were a day late. I had made the res for Thursday, and we showed up on Friday. Call it chemo brain! Hotel cancelled our res and charged us big bucks for the no show. So…yield. I took a deep breath and put my man on the phone. He patiently, and deliberately spoke with the hotel.com rep who was in India, and ended up getting us two nights back. Yield…
Then…we went to the show, got ourselves set up close to the stage in GA, and I went to get drinks. The bartender asked if I wanted doubles, and of course I said yes. You know, fighting the crowd and all…He handed me and a bill for $95. No you did not read that wrong…FIFTY DOLLAR COCKTAILS! DAMN.
YIELD…
Back to the greatest live show I have ever seen. Ever. These guys…Bono, Edge, Adam and Bram (stand in drummer). So much passion, so much history, so much integrity, so much doing good in the world. And the music that speaks directly to my soul…
People pushing in the crowd….yield.
People fighting for an Uber…yield.
A frustrated spouse…yield.
Waking up to hot tub with coffee, only to find the pool is out of order…yield.
Driving home in a whiteout…yield.
I have learned that life is full of moments that ask us to either push, or yield. I am finding so much peace right now in choosing yield. It’s nothing more than a deep breath. A pause. Inner peace. Unruffled by those living the push life. Yield, for me holds space for choices, space for ease, space for living.
It’s working for the little things, and the BIG thing. Denise, you have cancer…yield. Meds and side effects…yield. People saying the stupidest things…yield. Side note: do NOT tell your friend who is thriving with stage 4 cancer about so and so who just died of cancer. Oh yea…yield.
Give the right of way. Bend. It’s not weakness, it’s a super power.

Thank you friend!!
Turtle!
Overall, sounds like a wonderful and much needed getaway! Good for you!! It’s the ripples and rapids from the rocks in the river of life that give us the thrill of accomplishment—-And when we capsize, we’re ok, a little shook up, but there are these are just the stories we laugh at later on in the retelling. Embrace the chaos! Life is a glorious ride—ripples, wild rapids and all! Love how you write Denise! I always appreciate your perspective!

Thank you Turtle! I love the ripples and rapids analogy. Life is indeed a glorious ride!

This is something that has been difficult for me lately, to yield. Especially when someone is unkind AND when I have too much on my plate. Thank you for the pearl of wisdom.
